Introducing the 12 Days of Fitmas Health and Wellness Challenge!

As the Christmas holiday is quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to piggyback off my previous post about working out through the holidays and put together a little fitness challenge for you! It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the seven-minute workout so why not expand that into a mini-workout that you can build on each day leading up to Christmas! One of the great things about all the exercises is you can literally do them anywhere. With the exception of a wall and chair, you also do not need any fancy equipment. Complete the exercises when you wake up, while you are watching TV, or waiting for cookies to bake. And because fitness is not only physical but total mind and body, I will also offer a mini mindfulness task that you can add into your daily routine. Taking time for you is SO important. Let's remember that together as we wrap up this month and year.

Each day leading up to Christmas I have an exercise move and a mindfulness task that you can do. For the exercises, you can do them one each day and ideally build them all together so that by the end you'll have a complete mini-workout. For the mindful tasks, you can do them one per day as well or build on them where you can. By the end of the challenge, you'll have an arsenal of mindfulness ideas that you can implement into the new year. We'll start the challenge tomorrow Wednesday December 12th and work up to Christmas!

Day 1, Wednesday December 12th:
Exercise: 30 seconds - 1 minute wall sit
Mindful Task: Write down 3 things you are grateful for.

Day 2, Thursday December 13th:
Exercise: 20 jumping jacks
Mindful Task: Set an intention for the day. For example, today I will take things slow, one thing at a time.

Day 3, Friday December 14th:
Exercise: 30 seconds - 1 minute plank
Mindful Task: Say/write down a positive affirmation about yourself. Repeat as needed throughout the day.

Day 4, Saturday December 15th:
Exercise: 25 squats
Mindful Task: Compliment a stranger.

Day 5, Sunday December 16th:
Exercise: 15 pushups
Mindful Task: Pay it forward.

Day 6, Monday December 17th:

Mindful Task: Take a short mindful walk.

Day 7, Tuesday December 18th:
Exercise: 30 walking lunges
Mindful Task: Try mindful eating, could be with your morning coffee or maybe even with a Christmas cookie. Smell, feel, eat slow, savor each sip/bite. What memories surface? How does it make you feel?

Day 8, Wednesday December 19th:
Exercise: 50 mountain climbers
Mindful Task: Sit, close your eyes, take three deep mindful breaths. Notice the difference in how you feel.

Day 9, Thursday December 20th:
Exercise: 50 bicycle crunches
Mindful Task: Listen to music, whatever soothes you.

Day 10, Friday December 21st:
Exercise: 15 jump squats
Mindful Task: Institute a phone timeout for at least a portion of your day.

Day 11, Saturday December 22nd:
Exercise: 50 cross body punches
Mindful Task: Meditate, sit and just breath, focus on your breathe - 5 minutes minimum.

Day 12, Sunday December 23rd:
Exercise: 15 tricep dips (use a chair, couch, coffee table)
Mindful Task: Stretch. After all those exercises, spend a little extra time with your breathe and give your muscles a nice long stretch.

Day 13 Bonus Christmas Eve, Monday December 24th:
Exercise: The entire circuit twice!
Mindful Task: Breathe, breathe, breathe, do any or all of the above...tomorrow is the big day!

Refer to this post throughout the next couple of weeks as a reminder of the exercise and mindful tasks ahead. I will be posting either on my Instagram/Facebook or stories with a reminder of each daily challenge. I'm looking forward to having you join me as we head into the holidays together! If you do decide to join in the fun, please tag me at @a.blended.balance on Instagram or @ablendedbalance on Facebook as well as use the hashtag #ablendedbalancefitmas. I would love to see how you are doing and help motivate one another!

Taking a little time for ourselves each day will make a major difference in how we feel, how we act towards others and how we treat ourselves. Despite it being the most magical time of the year, stress and anxiety can sometimes creep in but through these daily activities we will be staying one step ahead as we put ourselves first!

Any feedback or ideas on how to improve this challenge, please share!

Happy holidays!! Merry Fitmas!
